On-demand interpreting

On-demand phone and video interpreting

Intalingo routes phone (OPI) and video (VRI) interpreting requests to your own interpreters and your partners' interpreters in 600+ languages, 24/7, matching each request by language pair, expertise and availability.

How it works

From the first ring to the usage log

  1. Caller connects

A caller dials your Intalingo phone line or joins by video.

  2. Language and access code

The IVR language menu captures the language, and the caller enters an access code.

  3. Matched interpreter

Intalingo offers the request to one of your available interpreters who matches the language pair and expertise.

  4. Overflow if needed

If your interpreters are busy, the request goes to your partner organizations in ranked order.

  5. Logged for billing

The session is recorded in the usage log that billing draws from.

How does on-demand interpreting work in Intalingo?

A caller reaches your Intalingo phone line or video session, chooses a language, and Intalingo connects them to one of your available interpreters who matches the request.

There is no business-hours routing: requests are routed around the clock, every day. Your own interpreters are offered the request first, and partner organizations only when your team is busy.

Intalingo is software: it does not provide interpreters. Language coverage and who answers depend on your interpreters and the partners you work with.

Which languages are supported?

Intalingo supports 600+ languages with any-to-any language pairs.

Language pairs are not limited to pairs that include English. A request can be for any source and target language that your interpreters or partner organizations cover.

How are calls routed to the right interpreter?

Each request is offered to interpreters who match the language pair and any required or preferred expertise, and who are available right now.

  • Language pair: the source and target language of the request.
  • Required expertise: only interpreters who have it are offered the request.
  • Preferred expertise: interpreters who have it are favored, without excluding others.
  • Availability: offers go only to interpreters who are available.

What happens when all of your interpreters are busy?

The request overflows to your partner organizations in the ranked order you set.

Partners can be organizations you already work with or ones you find in the Intalingo partner directory. You negotiate rates directly with each partner; Intalingo records them and produces statements.

What can Intalingo phone lines do?

Phone lines support IVR language menus, access codes and dial-out.

  • IVR language menus let callers choose a language before they are connected.
  • Access codes are entered on the line before a request is routed.
  • Dial-out brings another party into the call.

How are call recordings protected?

Call recordings are encrypted in private storage and can only be opened through short-lived signed links.

Recordings are never publicly accessible. Intalingo supports HIPAA workflows and signs a Business Associate Agreement (BAA).
